For decades, neuroscientists have wrestled with a seemingly basic question about the human brain: does it make new neurons in adulthood? This process, called neurogenesis, has been documented in adult rodents, but definitive evidence in humans has remained elusive. Now, a research team has published a report in the journal Science that some neuroscientists regard as offering conclusive evidence that neurogenesis happens in the adult human brain.
