Sociedade Pan-Americana de Trauma instituiu o Cristiane Domingues Nursing Award em homenagem à enfermeira brasileira, referência internacional em urgência, emergência e trauma

.
In 2024, the Pan American Trauma Society (SPT) established the Cristiane Domingues Nursing Award, a prize that recognizes the work of nurses in the trauma field. The award is named after Brazilian nurse Cristiane Domingues, an internationally recognized expert in emergency and trauma care, who has been dedicated to strengthening the nursing profession for more than 20 years. She was also one of the key figures responsible for bringing the international course Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) to Brazil, offered by the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN) from the United States and acknowledged in several countries for its specialized training of trauma nurses.
The first edition of the award took place in May 2025, during the 37th Pan American Trauma Congress in Cuenca, Ecuador. The title was awarded to Uruguayan nurse Gaspar Reboredo, a specialist in urgency and emergency care. Professor Lilia Nogueira, from the Department of Medical-Surgical Nursing at USP’s School of Nursing (EE), was also among the finalists. The award will be presented every five years and aims to highlight professionals with leadership roles, scientific production, and international recognition in the trauma field.
The decision to name the award after Cristiane was made by the SPT Nursing Committee, which acknowledged her leadership in disseminating training courses and methodologies for nurses in Brazil and Latin America. “It was a surprise and a tremendous honor. This recognition during my lifetime is something I never imagined receiving,” Cristiane emphasized.
According to the Federal Nursing Council (Cofen), the creation of the award reinforces the appreciation of the profession. “It’s a way to recognize the fundamental role of nurses both in caring for trauma patients and in managing trauma services,” said Sérgio Martuchi, member of Cofen’s National Nursing Committee on Disasters.
Education
Cristiane Domingues graduated in 2003 from the School of Nursing (EE), where she later earned a master’s degree in Adult Health Nursing (2008) and a PhD in Sciences (2013). She also holds an MBA in Health Management from Fundação Getúlio Vargas (FGV) and works in the fields of emergency and trauma, with experience in severity indicators, simulation, and teaching methodologies.
In 2011, she participated in training promoted by the Cofen/System of Regional Nursing Councils, focused on Advanced Trauma Support for nurses in Rondônia, an initiative that contributed to the qualification of professionals within the state’s health systems. She chaired the SPT Nursing Committee from 2012 to 2017, served on the board of the Brazilian Trauma Committee from 2014 to 2023, and led the Advanced Trauma Care for Nurses (ATCN) program in Latin America from 2013 to 2021. Today, she works as a consultant in the development and management of trauma care services and is a manager at All Trauma – Trauma Solutions, a company specializing in training and consulting for professionals and institutions in the trauma field. She is a member of the ATCN Committee, the International Committee of the Society of Trauma Nurses (STN), and the SPT Nursing Committee.
