On September 4, USP’s Medical School hosted the ceremony formalizing the technical cooperation agreement for the creation of the Institute of Intelligent Medicine Technology (ITMI). This will be the tenth institute to join the Hospital das Clínicas (HC) complex and the first to be conceived from the outset with a focus on sustainability and technological innovation.
ITMI will be the first smart hospital in the country, integrating technologies such as artificial intelligence, internet of things, big data, telehealth, and process systematization. The goal is that it will become a center of excellence in digital health, combining these tools with 5G-connected ambulances, hospital automation, integration with electronic medical records, and predictive systems for care management.
The initiative is a partnership between USP, the Government of São Paulo, the Ministry of Health, and the New Development Bank (NDB), also known as the BRICS Bank, to transform high-complexity care in Brazil. The project will feature 800 specialized beds for clinical emergencies and is expected to significantly reduce the time for diagnosis and treatment of the hundreds of cases referred daily to HC. In addition to medical care, the unit will be a leading center for research and training activities, representing a decisive step toward the future of healthcare in Brazil.
The new facility will be built on land donated by the Government of São Paulo, located next to HC, where the headquarters of the State Health Department currently operates. The total investment reaches nearly R$ 2 billion, with an estimated three years for completion of construction and start of operations.
