Institutions affiliated with USP’s Medical School were evaluated in the World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026, published annually by the American magazine “Newsweek”

The World’s Best Specialized Hospitals 2026 ranking, organized annually by Newsweek magazine in partnership with global data research company Statista Inc., selected three hospitals affiliated with USP’s Medical School (FMUSP) as among the best in the world in seven specialties. The survey was released on September 10, and is available here, with a menu on the left to choose medical specialties. Considering only Brazilian institutions in the ranking, USP-affiliated public hospitals lead in cardiology and neurology.
Check out the ranking of hospitals affiliated with the USP’s Medical School:
- In Cardiology, among 300 evaluated, the Heart Institute (Incor) is the highest-ranked Brazilian hospital, in 12th place, and Hospital das Clínicas of São Paulo (HC) in 299th place;
- In Cardiac Surgery, out of 150 hospitals listed, Incor again appears as the top Brazilian hospital, in 28th place;
- In Gastroenterology, HC was ranked 117th among 150 hospitals on the list;
- In Neurosurgery, HC appears in 90th place among 125 hospitals on the list;
- In Neurology, HC leads among Brazilian hospitals in 32nd place out of a list of 150;
- In Oncology, the Cancer Institute of the State of São Paulo (Icesp) was ranked 182nd in a list of 300;
- In Orthopedics, HC holds the 74th position among 150 hospital on the list.
The Newsweek ranking is based on services provided by leading hospitals in more than 20 countries. The evaluation considered a survey conducted between May and July 2025 among medical professionals, as well as certifications and patient treatment outcomes. Factors analyzed include quality of care, speed of service, patient experience and safety, information technology, digital health, and attractiveness as an employer.
The 2026 edition covered 12 medical specialties: cardiac surgery, cardiology, endocrinology, gastroenterology, neurology, neurosurgery, oncology, orthopedics, pediatrics, pulmonology, urology, and obstetrics and gynecology.
