The President of Sciences Po, Luis Vassy, visited USP’s President’s Office on November 4, where he was received by USP Vice-President Maria Arminda do Nascimento Arruda. Vassy was accompanied by Jeremy Perelman, Director of International Relations at the French institution; Larissa Frozel Barros, Manager of International Relations for Latin America and the Caribbean; and Guillermo Macías, Sciences Po’s representative for Latin America and the Caribbean.

Also attending the meeting were Fernando Menezes, Administrative Director of the São Paulo Research Foundation (Fapesp) and professor at USP’s Law School (FD); Sérgio Proença, President of USP’s International Cooperation Office (Aucani); and Marion Magnan, Science and Technology Cooperation Attaché at the Consulate General of France in São Paulo.

During the meeting, the participants discussed potential projects to deepen academic collaboration between the institutions, strengthen joint research programs, and create mobility opportunities for the academic communities of both universities.

“We are experiencing an important moment in terms of scientific and academic integration with France. We have an international research center of the CNRS [French National Center for Scientific Research] on our campus and have just signed an agreement for the creation of the International Research Center in Planetary Health with INRAe [National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and Environment],” highlighted USP Vice-President Maria Arminda do Nascimento Arruda.

The President of Sciences Po, Luis Vassy, expressed interest in developing projects in strategic areas such as climate, ecological transitions, social inequalities, democracy, and artificial intelligence. He cited the creation of the Paris School of Climate, the first European school to offer an undergraduate program in the humanities and social sciences dedicated to ecological transition. The school is led by researcher Laurence Tubiana, known for her role in France’s climate negotiations.

On USP’s side, the representatives highlighted the possibilities offered by international research centers and the promotion of faculty mobility programs, visiting professorships, and scientific cooperation in the fields of the humanities, social sciences, environmental sciences, and technology. They also mentioned the work of groups dedicated to the study of democracy, inequality, and social transformations, such as the Brazilian Institutions Observatory Center (COI), as well as projects in security, culture, and gender.
