Among the topics discussed was the possibility of creating a USP-UBA Center at USP’s University City campus to host researchers from the Argentine university working on joint research projects

The president of the University of Buenos Aires (UBA), Ricardo Gelpi, visited USP on August 29, where he was welcomed by USP president Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior and by Sérgio Proença, head of USP’s International Office (Aucani).
Topics discussed included the creation of performance indicators focused on the social role of universities and participation in the graduate student mobility program of the Red Macro Universidades – a network that brings together 37 public universities from 20 countries in Latin America and the Caribbean, including Argentina and Brazil.
Another point discussed was the creation of a USP-UBA Center at USP’s University City campus to strengthen cooperation, including a visiting professor program from UBA for longer periods.
“I would very much like to host part of the University of Buenos Aires here at University City. We could offer visiting professor scholarships for this center, ensuring the presence of researchers for several years. Major Latin American universities need to set an example, showing that they are coming together,” said Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior, president of the University of São Paulo.
UBA president Ricardo Gelpi agreed with his counterpart, emphasizing that “USP and UBA are responsible for a large share of the science produced in Latin America. This union is not only important for the two universities, but for the entire region, showing that we can work together in many areas.”
Accompanying Gelpi were the Chief of Staff of the UBA President’s Office, Javier Andres; the Secretary of International Relations, Patricio Conejero; and the Director of the Faculty of Pharmacy and Biochemistry, Pablo Evelson.
