This year, in celebration of 200 years of bilateral relations between France and Brazil, the program was extended to two weeks and incorporated the activities of the Saison Croisée Brésil-France 2025

“In a troubled and polarized world, where diplomatic relations between countries shift suddenly, interactions between universities around the globe are a safeguard for maintaining bridges between countries. I believe that with academic partnerships like this one, we can foster closeness and stability in relations between peoples,” stated USP’s President Carlos Gilberto Carlotti Junior at the opening ceremony of the Franco-USP Weeks of Cooperation in Science, Arts, and Humanities.
In its fourth edition, held in honor of the 200th anniversary of France-Brazil relations, the event’s schedule was expanded to two weeks, also incorporating activities related to the Saison Croisée Brésil-France 2025 – an initiative launched by Presidents Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva and Emmanuel Macron to strengthen ties between the two countries
“At the heart of the friendship between France and Brazil, USP plays a fundamental role. Since its founding more than 90 years ago, our University has served as a bridge between the two nations. Iconic figures such as Claude Lévi-Strauss, Fernand Braudel, and Roger Bastide left their mark here and on Brazil’s intellectual history. Their work, teachings, and exchange of knowledge shaped a tradition of dialogue and mutual curiosity that continues to inspire generations,” said Prisca Ramesh, Deputy Consul General of France in São Paulo.
Also attending the ceremony were the director of the Office of the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) in South America, Liviu Nicu; Provost of Research and Innovation, Paulo Nussenzveig; the president of the USP Agency for National and International Academic Cooperation (Aucani), Sergio Proença; the representative of the Institut des Amériques, Hervé Théry; the cooperation attaché for science and technology at the Consulate General of France, Marion Magnan; and the professor at the School of Communications and Arts (ECA), Marisa Midori, representing the Organizing Committee of the Franco-USP Weeks.

Organized by the Consulate General of France in São Paulo, in partnership with USP, the Institut des Amériques, and the Mundos em Transição Laboratory (IRL/CNRS), the fourth Franco-USP Week of Scientific Cooperation takes place from September 15 to 26, featuring more than 70 activities including seminars, special lectures, and roundtables.
The events were held across various USP campuses, covering multiple fields of knowledge and bringing together researchers from both countries.
Franco-USP Week
First held in 2022, the Franco-USP Week of Scientific, Artistic, and Humanistic Cooperation aimed to highlight the importance and longevity of collaborations between French universities and research institutions and USP.
The week’s program included symposia, lectures, and roundtables designed to promote reflection on scientific, cultural, economic, and political exchanges between France and Brazil, and especially on France’s relationship with USP.
