The Trump administration is allowing coal plants to release more pollution at a time when utilities are opting to save their aging coal facilities from retirement so they can power artificial intelligence. Those twin trends—weaker pollution safeguards and increased coal use—could accelerate rising temperatures and degrade the health of people living near coal plants whose emissions are linked to heart disease, respiratory illness, and lower IQs.
